So I read all the reviews and was very wary to rent a boat from Joe. We decided to take the chance and rented a 22' Proline Sport with Suzuki 175 hours. The boat was decent enough for fishing (however it has no fish finder/depth finder). Some of the other boats he had to offer were in much more questionable condition and we initially intended on renting a different boat but after seeing it - decided to upgrade to a slightly more expensive one. I would NOT recommend this place to novice boaters drivers - the channel to get out/in of his location is not easy. Also, generally navigating thru the shallower waters surrounding the Lower Keys is not mindless and you have to pay attention to where you are going (especially without a sonar depth finder) - you can easily hit the bottom and break the propeller- so BE CAREFUL. If you are looking to save some money in the lower keys on boat rentals - you'll get what you paid for here.
Dont rent here. They are not trustworthy. Dont use a credit card. You'll regret it.
As far as I know this is not a fishing charter company it's a boat rental. They are not yachts, they are sturdy seaworthy boats. Joe took great pains to educate us about the boat and the area. Novices have no business renting a boat and going out on the ocean. Get a guide for crying out loud.
Also as a side note, he is NOT a real Fishing Charter - while we were there another party was told they need fishing licensees. People on board a legitimate Fishing Charter do not need individual licensees to fish. Point being - his business ethics are debatable.
The vessel was in excellent condition and I was briefed on where all emergency equipment was stowed as well as how to enter and exit the channel! I would definitely recommend this company if you are heading to Looe Key, it is pretty much a straight shot!
I had a WONDERFUL experience working with Keys Boat Rentals! I had no issues with communication via phone or email at all. I shared that I was conducting research in the area, and Joe was more than welcome to accommodate me with an excellent vessel at a more than gracious rate! They also shared my funding page on their website!
Leave Joe alone. Joe can't fix stupid.
